Track Athletes Headed to National Junior Olympics
Florence Track Club has 2 youth athletes who will be competing at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, the week of July 24-30th. To qualify for the National JO meet, athletes had to finish in the top 8 in their events at the USATF Region 4 Junior Olympic Meet that was held in Tampa, Florida, July 6-9th.
Kamren Matthews, 9 year old female athlete, will be competing in the 100m dash, 200m dash, and long jump. Kamren came in 1st in the 100m and 200m at the SC State Association meet in June. She will be competing in the 200m prelims on Wednesday, July 26th, the 100m prelims on Thursday, July 27th, and long jump on Sunday, July 30th.
Kerstynn Barr, 12 year old female athlete, will be competing in shot put, discus, and javelin. Kerstynn came in 2nd in discus and 3rd in shot put at the SC State Association meet in June. She will be competing in javelin on Thursday, July 27th, shot put on Friday, July 28th, and discus on Saturday, July 29th.
Both of these young ladies have trained hard to make it to this level, and the City of Florence Athletics Department wishes them good luck and safe travels as they head to Eugene next week!
