Local Foods Initiative
Addressing two Principles of Progress in the City’s comprehensive plan – Improving Community Health and Community Livability – the City established a Local Foods Initiative and has spun out projects City-wide, including establishing a local chapter of Eat Smart Move More, re-invigorating community-garden program, helping build grocery shopping opportunities in a Food Desert, and strategically designating a Food, Artisan, and Warehouse Development District.
The District hosts food production businesses, a year-round farmers market, a commercial kitchen, and food-production business tenant spaces, all in walking distance of the historic downtown and the City’s Recreation Headquarters with an all-inclusive playground and gymnasium. The City Center Market is at 200 Sanborn Street located behind the Federal Building.
