Tropical Storm Debby Emergency Response and Closure Information

FLORENCE, SC – Tropical Storm Debby is expected to impact the Florence and Pee Dee area this week. City offices will remain open as weather conditions permit. Emergency personnel from Police, Fire, Public Works & Utilities will be available to respond as needed if weather conditions permit and will respond accordingly following the storm.
Closures and Cancellations:
- The Sanitation Division plans to run garbage collection this week as scheduled as long as weather conditions allow. Recycling WILL NOT be collected beginning Wednesday, August 7th through Friday, August 9th. Should weather conditions deteriorate, collection may be postponed ensuring the safety of our workers.
- The Alligator Road Flushing Initiative originally scheduled to begin Monday, August 5th is postponed. The City will notify the public of a new start date for the initiative once it has been rescheduled.
- The Jayne H. Boswell Animal Shelter will be closed to the public beginning Wednesday, August 7th through Friday, August 9th.
The city would like to provide residents and visitors with phone numbers to call for non-emergency events such as water or sewer service disruptions, downed trees, flooded or blocked streets, and other public safety concerns.
