FLORENCE, SC – Water customers located along Twin Church Road, Pandora’s Path, Southern Aire, Watt Lane, Jackie Procter, and Bridle Path are advised by the City of Florence and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to boil their tap water vigorously for one minute prior to using it for drinking or cooking.
The water main will be turned off in order to make connections to the new relocated water main as part of the Alligator Road Highway Widening Project Phase II, which will result in the disruption of service to the water customers in this area. There will be multiple interruptions daily beginning Monday, August 30, 2021 through Friday, September 3, 2021. The City will be working closely with the contractor and SCDOT to diligently restore water service throughout this service area.
There has been no confirmed contamination of the system; however, because of the loss of pressure a slight potential for bacteriological contamination exists. Therefore, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) requires the City of Florence to issue this advisory when an event occurs that allows the possibility for bacteria to enter the water system. Water customers in this area should continue to vigorously boil their water for at least one full minute prior to drinking or cooking following a disruption of service until notified by the City of Florence. Any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.
The boil water advisory is a precautionary measure to protect public health until test results confirm the water is safe to drink. Because the water quality is unknown at this time customers are urged to take appropriate precautions. Test results for bacteriological quality should be completed on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at which time the City of Florence will notify customers regarding the status of the boil water advisory.
The City of Florence, Florence County, and SCDOT recognizes the inconvenience associated with the Alligator Road highway-widening project and apologizes for service interruptions for our customers. The patience of our customers is greatly appreciated as the contractor completes necessary work in support of this project.
If you should have any questions concerning this notice, you may call the City of Florence at (843) 665-3236 or SCDHEC (843) 661-4825.
