Join us for the 15th Annual Florence Veterans Day Ceremony:
The Florence Veterans Committee will host the 15th Annual Florence Veterans Day Ceremony at the Florence Veterans Park located at 601 Woody Jones Blvd, Florence , SC.
The event is on Veterans Day, November 11, 2023, beginning at 11:00 AM. This year’s distinguished speaker is a native of South Carolina and a graduate of South Carolina State University. Brigadier General David M. Jenkins currently serves as the Assistant Adjutant General of the SC Army National Guard. In his civilian career, BG Jenkins is Senior Director of Strategic Operations and Technical Delivery at Lexmark Interational in Lexington, Kentucky.
This year, for the first time, ceremony attendees wil enjoy music from a live military band, the 246th Army Band, South Carolina National Guard. This band, often referred to as the "Palmetto State Band" has a rich history of support to the state and nation dating bakc to World War II. The program includes the unveiling of a monument dedicated to the men and women of the Army Air Corps and Army Air Forces, forefunners of the US Air Force and the US Space Force. These soldiers suffered extremely high casualty rates during WWII in the skies over Europe, Afria, and Asia. The program will also include the addition of veterans with Pee Dee connections to the park's Wall of Honor. During this presentation, the Veterans Honor Guard will perform a rifle salute and taps.
The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, so portable chairs are encouraged for those who may not want to stand.
