FLORENCE, SC – The City of Florence is issuing a Boil Water Advisory for all Florence water customers located in the 400-800 blocks of South Church Street, 400-800 blocks of South Barringer Street, 300 block of Ervin Street, East Campbell Street, Prince Street, Noble Street, 200 block of East Elm Street, 400-700 block of Jarrott Street, and the 400 block of Railroad Avenue due to a 6-inch water main break which occurred in the 600 block of South Church Street (please see the attach map for the affected area.) The Boil Water Advisory will be in effect when water service is restored for these residents. City of Florence water staff advises these water customers to boil their tap water vigorously for one minute prior to using it for drinking or cooking.

While water service will be restored today, July 22nd, there will be another outage starting at 9:00 am on July 23rd for crews to complete necessary repairs. The boil water advisory will continue to be in effect until the test results for bacteriological quality are completed.

There has been no confirmed contamination of the system; however, because of the loss of pressure a slight potential for bacteriological contamination exists. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, the South Carolina Department of Public Health (SCDPH) requires the City of Florence to issue this advisory when an event occurs that allows the possibility for bacteria to enter the water system. All water customers in this area should continue to vigorously boil their water for at least one full minute prior to drinking or cooking until notified by the City of Florence. Any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.

The boil water advisory is a precautionary measure to protect public health until test results confirm the water is safe to drink. Because the water quality is unknown at this time customers are urged to take appropriate precautions. Test results for bacteriological quality should be completed by July 24^th, 2024, at which time the City of Florence will notify customers regarding the status of the boil water advisory.
