FLORENCE, SC –  Due to Tropical Storm Debby, the City of Florence had to postpone the Alligator Road Flushing Initiative. The new start date for the initiative to begin is Monday, August 19th at 9:00 pm.

In a continued effort to address system water discoloration issues, the City of Florence Utilities Department, upon the advice of consulting engineers, is initiating a flushing initiative in areas experiencing persistent water discoloration issues. Due to the size of the area, crews have divided it into sections for systematic flushing that will occur over the course of multiple evenings until complete. Starting on Monday, August 19, 2024, with the potential of continuing through Wednesday night, work will commence on Alligator Road each evening from 9:00 pm to 3:00 am. The map below highlights all affected City of Florence water customers.

During this period, affected customers will experience temporary low water pressure as crews utilize high-pressure methods to scour the lines of iron sediment buildup to minimize future water discoloration concerns.

For any concerns or questions regarding this notice, please contact the City of Florence Utilities Department at (843) 665-3236.
