The City of Florence Utilities Department is dedicated to providing the highest quality drinking water and wastewater services to residential and business customers, designing and overseeing construction of City infrastructure projects, and managing stormwater to protect urban waterways, conserve natural resources, and allow clean, safe water to flow downstream to those who reside below us in the Pee Dee watershed.

Town of Timmonsville Notification of

Pending Water Distribution Work and

Interruptions of Water Service

 The City of Florence will begin November 1, 2017, through March 31, 2018 on the next phase of work on the water distribution system within the Town of Timmonsville.  This work will replace some existing hydrants, with installation of some new water mains and valves.

During this time period customers will experience periodic interruptions of water service.  We will notify customers in advance of work in there area with door hangers and water advisory hopefully 24 – 48 hours prior to beginning work impacting water service.

This work is necessary to allow the City of Florence to continue the process of improving water quality at every tap which was provided by Town of Timmonsville. The City’s contractor will attempt to complete this work as expeditiously as possible. We want to apologize and thank our customers in advance for any inconvenience as a result of these future interruptions.

Water Production
City of Florence drinking water is produced from 14 groundwater plants with 14 elevated storage tanks and a surface water treatment facility that withdraws water from the Great Pee Dee River.  To see more information on our facilities, or to view our annual Water Quality Reports, click here.

Wastewater Management
The Wastewater Management Division is in charge of safe and proper handling and disposal of City wastewater.

Sanitary Sewer Collection System
The Sanitary Sewer Collection System is designed to carry sewer from your house or business to the City of Florence Wastewater Management Facility.

Stormwater Collection System
The City of Florence Stormwater Operations Division is responsible for installing and maintaining storm drains and drainage ditches in public areas and along City streets and street sweeping inside the City.

The City of Florence Compliance Office has been tasked with overseeing construction activities in the City with regard to stormwater runoff, managing the Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) program, enforcing the state mandated Cross Connection Control (Backflow) program, and the Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination  (IDDE) program.

Distribution Operations
Distribution Operations is responsible for the maintenance of the City of Florence’s water distribution system.  Our mission is to maintain safe potable water from the source to the end user's tap through approved installation techniques, repair techniques and regulatory practices.

The Maintenance Group works in coordination with all departments of the City.  Our day by day duties include troubleshooting and repair of lift stations, wastewater management facility equipment, ground and surface water plant equipment, recreational and athletic facilities, City gateways, downtown street lights, etc.
