The City of Florence Recreation Services/Sports Tourism Department is comprised of 29 full time employees and approximately 80 part-time employees. Seasonal help includes summer playground activity instructors, arts/craft instructors, maintenance workers, ticket gate workers, concessions cashiers and servers, scorekeepers and gymnastics instructors.

The Recreation Services/SportsTourism Department is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, supervising and coordinating a comprehensive plan of leisure activities for the citizens of Florence while attracting regional, state and national tournaments and events to the City. The Department is also charged with the responsibility of providing safe, well-maintained parks and facilities that serve the City of Florence neighborhood residents.

The City operates and maintains 17 neighborhood park sites and facilities totaling over 700 acres, including several miles of an extensive trail system, 27 ballfields, 50 tennis courts, 13 outdoor basketball courts, 3 indoor basketball courts, 25 soccer fields, 10 playgrounds, 8 picnic shelters, 1 administrative office and 5 community center buildings, a tennis center and a soon to be completed soccer pavilion. In addition, a track and field facility is also being developed with a projected start of construction in the Spring of 2019.  Program opportunities are geared to various age groups and are coordinated through department staff with community organizations to provide a wide range of programs and activities which enhance the quality of life for the Florence resident. While many of the athletic programs are geared to accommodate the at-large community population, specific activities, such as the summer playground program, after school program and P.A.L. programs, are directed at neighborhood parks and community residents.

In order to accomplish program and maintenance requirements, the Recreation Services/Sports Tourism Department is divided into three operational components – (1) Administrative; (2) Community Programs, and (3) Athletics, including the Freedom Florence Recreational Complex, Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center, Pearl Moore Basketball Center and the Florence Soccer Complex.

The City of Florence Recreation Services/Sports Tourism Department Administrative Offices are located at 513 Barnes Street, Florence, S.C. 29501. Call (843) 665-3253 or visit the office between the hours of 8:30am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday.
